Purpose and Industry Challenges:

In tire manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics, accurate product identification and quality control are essential for traceability and safety. Manufacturers need to reliably read tire sidewall characters (OCR) while also measuring tread depth to ensure each product meets specification.

 

However, this process is technically challenging. Tire surfaces are curved, which often causes defocus in traditional 2D imaging systems. Deep tread patterns create shadows and distortions, making measurement and character recognition less reliable. In addition, black rubber materials absorb light, resulting in low contrast for standard vision systems. These issues are further compounded by high-speed production lines, where inspection must be completed quickly without sacrificing accuracy.

Solution: SRI7400R 3D Laser Profiler
